Happy Mother’s Day, mothers everywhere.
Sunday is our day. When the world HAS to acknowledge what a great job we are doing at the world’s hardest job. Yes, parents are the world’s super heroes! So there!
Time-honored tradition is to take Mom out to brunch. Me, I hate waiting in line, so it’s not my idea of fun. My idea of a great Mother’s Day gift is for you to clean my house. (But I digress.) So here are my suggestions for a great Mother’s Day here in Las Vegas.
So I think the best idea is to buy a ticket to Freddie B’s “A Mothers Day Extravaganza” at Ron DeCar’s Event Center. It’s a show appropriate for the whole family. 👨👩👧👧
Freddie B is a baritone who croons jazz and blues classics. My friend Cindy Lange invited her mother and me to this show a few years ago and it was awesome. Marsha Warfield is the guest star. And there’s a prize for the prettiest Mother’s Day hat. Anyone, can I borrow a hat?
Doors open at 5:30. Show time is at 7. Tickets start at $25.

Beat the crowd. Eat early!
Well, if you want to share a meal with Mom AND want to avoid the crowds, start early! Mimi’s opens at 7 am for Mother’s Day. I live for their luscious, delicious, fattening, heavenly, delicious, fattening muffins the size of Texas. Your mom deserves one!
If you wait unit 11, Mimi’s is offering a three-course meal for $20.
Brunch Options All Over Town
Nora’s Italian Cuisine 🍝
The neighborhood trattoria typically opens at 4 on Sundays. But this Sunday the doors open at 2. My faves at Noras are the calamari fritti–crispy outsides with juicy, juicy not chewy calarami inside–served with just lemon juice. You don’t need no sauce because these babies are so flavorful. Also try the veal chop parmigiana; Nora’s serves it on the bone so it look like it has it’s own handle.
And yes, the pizzas are awesome. Since I can’t eat tomato sauce any more (because of my vocal chord damage), I can still eat pizza there because they have a delicious one called snow white.

My loyal readers know this is one of my favorite restaurants in Las Vegas. Yes, it’s spendy. But the food is way worth it. Even the vegetables are divine, says the committed carnivore.
Brunch for one starts at $48. The three-course meal is anchored by Fleming’s steak and spring vegetable quiche. It’s studded with carmelized onions, herbed goat cheese and tomato hollandaise. And the full dinner menu is available all day.

Freedom Beat 🐟
The funky eatery at the Downtown Grand serves gourmet food, thanks to the stewardship of Chef Scott Cummings. The restaurant is featuring a three-course Mother’s Day special for $35 per person. Choices: Cream of mushroom soup or roasted beet salad for starters; 8 ounce New York steak with grilled shrimp or pan seared halibut for the main. I’d have to have both desserts because the choices are tiramisu or chocolate cake with mixed berry sauce. I’ll take both..IV!
And here’s what I love about this restaurant. Park in the hotel’s garage across the street and the restaurant will validate the parking. FREE parking! A casino that actually cares about it’s customers. Who would have thunk it?

The Italian American Club 🍝
The Rat Pack actually did eat here. Step into the dining room and you will be looking around for Don Draper. But the authentic Italian food is actually really tasty and not outrageously expensive.
The dining room will be serving food from 3 to 9. Then stay for the lounge shows from 6 to 11. Great vocalists serenade the diners.

Honey Salt 🌆
Owner Elizabeth Blau is a mother herself. The food is inventive. Try to get a seat on the patio. It’s glorious at night as you look up at the stars. And if you forgot to buy mom a gift, you can buy sunflower bouquets at the restaurant for just $9.

Miller’s Ale House 🍷
Bar food elevated to gourmet fare…at bar food prices. I love Miller’s! Surprisingly, this restaurant serves some of the best lobster in town. Who knew?
Plus this is a great restaurant if Mom is into sports.
Both the Miller’s in Las Vegas and the one in Henderson are treating mom to a glass of wine or sangria with her meal. But there’s more! All moms will receive a $10 off $30 offer to use on their next visit!
In both Las Vegas and Henderson
Pasta Shop Ristorante & Art Gallery 🍝
Yummy free cannolis for mom. The founder of this family-owned restaurant actually cooked for the Rat Pack, so the recipes are a mix of 1950 seasoned with a dash of 2019.
Here’s the best part: The FREE cannolis happen on Saturday too. So you can celebrate BEFORE the crowds appear on Sunday!
